LWG serves as a roundtable to promote a Community Watershed Concept. We also focus on educating the Lolo community and its youth about the basics of watershed function and provide hands-on science-based learning events to engage connection to our water and share the importance of creating and nurturing a resilient ecosystem.
By driving collaboration and promoting understanding of our watershed, we are engaging ambassadors and fostering future generations of stewards to support a healthy, well-functioning watershed for years to come.

Drought Management Public Meeting
In Partnership with Montana DNRC and Missoula Conservation District, Lolo Watershed Group has developed a draft Drought Management Plan. We’re seeking public input as we work to reduce the impacts of drought on the Lolo Watershed.

Free Kids Fly Fishing Day
Join Us for a Family-Friendly Fishing & Creek Education Day!
Kids are invited to get a hands-on learning experience from fly fishing experts. This event will teach kids fly-knot tying, casting techniques, safe fish handling, and more! This event is intended for kids 7+ but all are welcome to participate.
Gear is provided.
We encourage you to bring your own water bottle, snacks, and smiles for a couple of hours of fish fun!

Lolo Creek Restoration Tour & Willow-Collecting Volunteer Day
Join us for a hands-on restoration and education day on Lolo Creek!
Community members are invited to tour an active restoration site led by Trout Unlimited and the Lolo National Forest, with the Lolo Watershed Group. We’ll walk the project area at Earl Tennant Campground and learn how re-meandering a ½-mile reach improves trout habitat and reconnects the floodplain—then we’ll head upstream to collect willow stakes that will be planted on-site.
No experience needed—TU staff will provide instruction, tools, and lunch. Expect uneven, possibly muddy ground and shallow water; recommended for ages 10+ with an adult.
Please bring a water bottle, sturdy shoes/boots, work gloves if you have them, weather layers, and snacks or a sack lunch.
Schedule (approx.):
• 9:00 AM – Meet at Earl Tennant Campground; safety briefing & site tour with TU staff (restoration goals, techniques, progress).
• 10:15 AM – Caravan ~5 miles upstream to cut willow stakes for replanting at the project site.
• 12:00 PM – Lunch provided.
• 1:30–2:00 PM – Wrap-up & tool return.
What to Bring/Wear:
Closed-toe shoes/boots suitable for mud and shallow water, work gloves, water bottle, sun/rain layers, and a sack lunch/snacks.
Tools are provided.
Access Notes:
Outdoor, uneven terrain; creek banks and muddy areas—not ADA accessible. Limited cell service possible.

We would argue that Montana is the most beautiful state in the United States. How many people can say that they are a few hours, or even mere minutes, from the most stunning scenery in the world, no matter where they are in the state?
But our state’s great beauty is a constant project alongside our roads – unknown to motorists, things fly out of their vehicles and litter nearby ditches and waterways. It is up to us to volunteer to keep Montana gorgeous.
Come join us this Sunday, Oct 21 for the fall cleanup. Meet at 1pm at the Travelers Rest Country Store parking lot 3 miles up Highway 12 from the junction at Highway 93 and Highway 12. Must be 10yrs or older. Vests and garbage bags provided.
